Iwo Jima

Iwo Jima a island that the Japanese owned during WWII. The US invaded Iwo Jima on February 19,1945. the American commander in the invasion was Holland Smith commanding a force of US marines 110,000 strong. The two Japanese commanders were Tadamichi Kuribayashi and Takeichi Nishi commanding forces of 18,061 and 18,591 strong. the Americans greatly outnumbered the Japanese,but the Japanese did not go down without a fight,the Japanese had made tunnels throughout the island and whenever an American came close they would fire.The Japanese were very smart about there tunnels they made one outpost not to far the next so when one guy died another could take his place quickly.the American losses were 6,821 dead and 19,217 wounded.the Japanese losses were 17,845 and 18,375 dead and 216 captured.

Normandy invasion

The Normandy invasion was the establishment of the Allied forces in Normandy.
The mission in Normandy was known as operation Overlord. The invasion was the largest amphibious operation in history. the men that fought in the assault on Normandy were young men from Canada. Following the victory on Normandy, the US would be able to push the Nazi forces out of France leading to the fall of Hitler.
Six thousand nine hundred vessels were involved with the invasion of Normandy and were controlled by Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay the 12000 thousand aircraft involved were under the command of Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory.

Pearl Harbor

Pearl harbor was the beginning of World War II. For the US, it was an unexpected attack. In the early morning, the Japanese target was the American naval base. The attack was extremely effective and the carnage was unbelievable. It was said that only two aircraft made it off the ground. Following the Pearl Harbor battle, we counter attacked with the Doolittle raid.The counter attack was nothing compared to their attack of over 300 Japanese zeros and nates,compared to the counter of around 15 to 20 planes, but non the less the attack was a success.

US miltary in WWII overview

The US started its involvement in World War II when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor which had the effect of making a rhino angry. After the attack, the US launched into World War II. Along with becoming enemies with Japan we became enemies with Germany. During years of war, many famous battles were fought such as IwoJima,Guadalcanal,Omaha,and the dropping of the atomic bomb.
